About Guernsey

Guernsey is located in the Gulf of St Malo, 60 miles south west of England and about 30 miles west of northern France. It is this fusion of French and British culture that makes up the Guernsey heritage, scenery and spirit of the Island.

Guernsey’s economy is largely based on financial services along with traditional industries of flower growing, fishing and dairy farming. Guernsey's independent status has led to many offshore banks, fund managers and insurance companies establishing offices there making it one of the world's leading financial centres. 

A wide range of funds are administered from Guernsey including hedge funds, funds of hedge funds, real estate funds and private equity funds.

Guernsey appears on the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development 'White List' which details the jurisdictions which have implemented internationally agreed standards of tax cooperation. The Guernsey Financial Services Commission regulates the Island's finance industry.

Bright Fact: Victor Hugo completed Les Miserables while living in Guernsey. He described the Channel Islands as "fragments of France which fell into the sea and were gathered up by England".
