The Bright Alternative
Depositary Services

Depositary Services

Since the introduction of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive in 2013, we have spent considerable time expanding our depositary services offering. Anchored firmly in our award winning fund administration business, the establishment of an independent depositary function represents a natural evolution for our business.

Whilst the introduction of the AIFM Directive clarified the scope of the depositary role in an alternative funds context, at the Group, we have been meeting the depositary requirements of cash monitoring, safekeeping of fund assets and oversight, for our clients for a number of years.

As a result of changes made to Channel Islands legislation in 2008, we started operating IOSCO compliant fund structures and developed risk appropriate procedures to deal with the basic depositary requirements which are now contained in the AIFM Directive; all within an ISAE 3402 audit controlled environment. Following the implementation of the AIFM Directive in 2013 and building on our existing systems and controls, we created an independent depositary function tasked solely with providing depositary services.

As the implementation of the AIFM Directive has been completed across Europe our service offering has developed so that we are now able to provide depositary services to EU and non EU managers of both EU and non EU funds, both under the AIFM Directive or National legislation.

Whether you outsource fund administration or deal with this in house, we can assist, providing depositary services on both a stand alone or tied administration basis.

Our approach with depositary services

Clients require a tailored service offering – Our clients want to focus their time and energy on providing their core services rather than worrying about the needs of their service providers.  Based on our years of experience we are able to tailor our approach to meet our clients' needs ensuring that they can continue to operate on a 'business as usual' basis.

Clients need systems efficiency – We recognise that efficiency is a key requirement of any depositary services offering, ensuring that costs as well as administrative hassle are kept to a minimum.  We have tailored our market leading systems in order to deliver our services in the most cost effective and efficient way possible.

Clients benefit from our regulatory understanding – We have been involved with the development and implementation of the AIFM Directive since 2009 and have a deep understanding of this legislation and its implementation on a pan-European basis.  As a result of this, we are able to make informed decisions about its interpretation which translates into pragmatic service delivery.

"Aztec Group looked at what we already had. They did not try to re-invent the wheel. In most cases it was as simple as just adding them as the Depositary to the distribution list for all necessary emails."
