Jersey is the largest of the British Channel Islands. The Island is located 85 miles south of mainland Britain and 14 miles from the coast of France.
Jersey's economy is largely based on financial services, tourism, e-commerce and agriculture. Financial services contribute approximately sixty percent of the island's economy and Jersey is recognised as one of the leading offshore financial centres.
A report published in September 2009 by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded that the Jersey financial sector is regulated and supervised to a 'high standard', placing Jersey in the 'top division' of international finance centres.
Jersey also appears on the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development 'White List' which details the jurisdictions which have implemented internationally agreed standards of tax cooperation. The Jersey Financial Services Commission regulates the Island's finance industry.
Bright Fact: There are 300 births every day at the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (formerly known as Jersey Zoo).
