Aztec Jersey Tristars get a visit from their Super League Triathlon Heroes

Mark Wanless talks about our partnership with the awesome Aztec Jersey Tristars!

Our little Aztec Jersey Tristars got to spend time with Super League Triathlon athletes last month, including Olympic medallists the Brownlee Brothers. The athletes dropped into the Tristars training session, answered questions, taught skills and even played bulldog ahead of the Super League Triathlon which took place in Jersey between 24 – 25 September.

Aztec Jersey Tristars has around 100 members and assists and inspires children to develop their athletic ability and achieve their personal goals. The club welcomes children from aged seven, introducing them to triathlon whilst supporting and developing budding future triathletes with a year round coaching and racing programme.

The Super League Triathlon series debuted in Australia, in March with Jersey going on to host the second event in the series in September. Ahead of the event, our Aztec Jersey Tristars got to meet the likes of tri superstars – the Brownlee Brothers, Mario Mola, Non Stanford and Jodie Stimpson.

On both days of the Super League Triathlon, Aztec Jersey Tristars entered two teams into the corporate mix relay race alongside 18 other teams from across the globe. Opening each days racing and competing on identical courses to the pros, the Aztec Jersey Tristars finished in a fantastic 4th and 5th place! Double Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee even turned up as a last minute swimmer in the relay race which brought added excitement to the swim start.

The Super League Triathlon was promised to be the most exciting sporting event ever to hit Jersey, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. 50 of the world’s best male and female triathletes each competed in three races per day on a tight, technical course using new and exciting formats. For the first day of racing, over 50 Aztec Jersey Tristars lined the swim pontoon and welcomed each of the athletes to the start with high fives. The Tristars’ weekend was topped off with the huge honour of presenting the awards to the podium of finishers, which was broadcast live around the world.

Mark Wanless, Group Head of Real Assets at the Aztec Group and Aztec Jersey Tristars coach, commented:

“We’re delighted to continue to support the Aztec Jersey Tristars. It is a wonderful club which not only aims to produce great athletes but, equally of importance to us, promotes a fun and healthy lifestyle for children. The atmosphere for the whole Super League weekend was electric, everyone really enjoyed themselves and the culmination was of course meeting their heroes and watching them race at close quarters, it has inspired our Tristars to continue chasing their triathlon dreams. Many of the athletes even commented that the Tristars training session was one of the highlights of their week!”
