After years working in the City, Simon jumped at the opportunity to move his family to Jersey in 2007, where he knew from his experience as a client of many law firms and fund administration companies on the Island that he would benefit from high quality work whilst regaining a measure of work/life balance.
Simon’s career began in the commercial real estate market, where he progressed to become Director of Transaction Management and Director of Property Legal Services of a FTSE 100 company. In this role, Simon managed teams and negotiated many complex investment transactions with values of hundreds of millions of pounds, whilst coordinating the input of specialist lawyers, accountants and tax advisors. It was during this period that Simon began working with offshore structures, which consequently led him into Jersey’s funds industry and an opportunity to move into the Private Equity market.
Simon subsequently took on the role of Private Equity Director and then Head of Client Services (EMEA) at one of Europe’s largest fund services providers. In this role, Simon managed closed-ended fund operations in Jersey, Guernsey, London, Luxemburg and Hong Kong and was responsible for line-managing client service and operations teams delivering change projects into the business.
During his career, Simon has always placed great emphasis on employee engagement and retention. Commenting on the Aztec Group’s investment in its staff, Simon remarks, “Aztec Group invested when others were cutting back. Placing strategic investment focus on areas such as technology and employee development has allowed the Group to prosper and continue to thrive following the economic downturn. Having that strategic structure in place has helped to propel the Group forward and differentiate it from competition”.
Simon is a real people-person who enjoys helping others. Whether in a professional or personal capacity, Simon is always willing to give a helping hand. In 2013 he began volunteering as a crew member for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) which has enabled Simon the privilege of helping others whilst enjoying his passion for the sea.
Simon holds both a Diploma and Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.
